While Vice President Kamala Harris Prepares Visit to Africa | The US Extends Its Sanctions Against Zimbabwe

Vice President Kamala Harris is scheduled for a week-long visit to Africa. She is the fifth member of the Biden administration in recent months to visit the continent. The Vice President is scheduled to visit the Central African countries of Ghana, Tanzania and Zambia. The visits are a foreign policy follow up to the United States African Leader Summit.

What does the Biden administration do just before VP Harris' visit to Africa? What does the Biden administration do to thwart its attempts to decrease the Russian and Chinese influence in Africa? What does the Biden administration do to counter its own outreach to the continent of Africa? President Biden extends the sanctions against Zimbabwe for another year. It continues the United States', European Union's and North Atlantic Treaty Organization's (NATO) foreign policies against African countries that have led them to move away from the West towards Russia and China.

The Special Military Operation has surprised the Biden administration. It led to the revelation of how much the world does not appreciate or stand with the US, NATO and EU. The non-aligned countries of the cold war have not aligned with the West against Russia and China or in the conflict in Ukraine. Non-western countries make up over 80% of the world's population. They have chosen not to take sides in the conflict, not to turn against Russia or China, not to side with the western countries and to move towards a multipolar world with the East. The countries of the world see an opportunity to free themselves from western colonial imperialist practices that have never truly ended. Vice President Harris's visit to Africa is one of several by US officials to address this revelation.

Why has President Biden extended the sanctions against Zimbabwe? His reasoning includes:
  1. He accuses the leaders of Zimbabwe of economic mismanagement.
  2. He accuses leaders of Zimbabwe, particularly President Emmerson Mnangugwa of undermining the democratic processes and institutions of Zimbabwe; thus posing an unusual and extraordinary threat against American foreign policies
  3. He states there is a breakdown in the rule of law in Zimbabwe
This word salad basically shows a continuation of the American imperialist supremacist hegemonic mindset it has always had when it comes to Africa and Africans. That includes Africans throughout the Diaspora. America's foreign policies are not the responsibility of other countries. Other countries do not have to keep American foreign policies. Countries have their own foreign and domestic policies. America's colonial mindset at work. Both China and Russia do not impose such interventionist conditions on the countries of Africa.

The Biden administration has mismanaged the American economy. Although there was some inflation following the COVID-19 pandemic, it was nothing in comparison to the hyperinflation since February 2022. Whatever sacrifices made during the pandemic, they were made as precautions to save lives. The hyperinflation is connected to shortages. Sanctions create shortages. Sanctions led to price increases on products such as oil and gas. That increases products requiring the use of oil and gas for production. Banks were not closing due to the responses to COVID-19. They are closing in part due to government responses to the current hyperinflation. Since President Biden took office, the economies of the United States, Europe and Ukraine have worsened. Effects of economic mismanagement will be seen for decades to come.

Sanctions were imposed on Zimbabwe to encourage its government to: respect democratic principles and institutions and the rule of law. It is their own governments that impose laws in countries. It is not for outside countries to impose and enforce laws on independent sovereign nations. Whose laws would the government of a country respect? Why does one country interfere in another country's domestic affairs? Sounds like more of the United States think tanks' dictatorial Draconian "rules based order." The West's, led by the US, sanctioning countries based on rules of law is a continuation of western colonial mentality. African countries are still seeking independence from western countries' colonial practices, especially those of the United States. They are moving eastward to a fair and more peaceful multipolar world.

During America's cold war against the Soviet Union, one of the fears that was spread was that communism would come to America. The Soviet Union was to cross the Pacific and take away American liberties. It was the reason given for the Vietnam War, embargo and hostilities towards Cuba.  Spreading fear against other countries and/or their leaders is very much part of America's hegemonic foreign policy. Now America is doing what it said was the intent of the Soviet Union. It forcing its way of government onto the countries of the world. It is doing so in an aggressive dictatorial manner that is in tune with western colonialism. The world is saying no more.

America has used democracy as a political religion. America is on a political religious missionary crusade to force democracy on the world. Any country that refuses America's democracy is guilty of political sin and must be punished with sanctions, embargoes, invasions, wars... until it converts. As Americans shun people of other faiths than Christianity, they shun "others" who are not their version of democracy. American culture mandates the creation of a group of "others" in which to feel superior.

The truth is that Americans should shun America given it has never been a democracy. America was formed by its founding fathers as a republic. A republic is an indirect rule by the people through elected representatives. Republics have some form of legislative body such as Congress or Parliament. A democracy on the other hand is direct rule by the people. There are no representatives. There may not even be a government. That is for the people to decide. Both are forms of government where the people rule. Americans are far from ruling America. In practice, the United States is neither a democracy nor a republic. It is a political religious hypocrite.

Africa, Africans and those in the African Diaspora throughout the world are "others" to mainstream America and its land of origin, Western Europe. Western Divine Destiny, the White man's burden is always to save all Black and Brown people of the world. That includes Africa. Right now, the part of the West's divine burden is that Zimbabwe needs saving. Thus for its own good, it must be punished with sanctions, made to mind and politically sin no more.

Vice President Kamala Harris agenda during her visit to Africa includes the promotion of democracy, discussion on food insecurity, the conflict in Ukraine and the climate crisis. Sanctions have created food insecurity in Africa. Russia and China have no sanctions against Zimbabwe. The Vice President's visit is to present and protect US interests and not those of Zimbabwe. Why the US is being shunned by over 80% of the world does not register within the US government, including the Biden administration. The United States does not acknowledge the consequences of its actions. Even in a diplomatic visit to the continent of Africa, the United States continues its attempt at imperialist hegemonic dominance.

Zimbabwe inherited a sizeable debt from Rhodesia, which grew through the 1980s due to drought, questionable development loans, and "aid" loans from western governments tied to buying exports, including military aircraft.  The aftermath of US, UK and UN sanctions against Rhodesia still plague Zimbabwe. Zimbabwe was the British colony of Southern Rhodesia. It officially gained its independence as Zimbabwe on 18 April 1980.

China and Zimbabwe relations date back to January 1979, during the Rhodesian Bush War for independence from Britain. In support with Russia, Zimbabwe's former President called Western sanctions "illegal." Former President Mugabe had close relations with Russia. Zimbabwe has a sizable trade relationship with Russia.  Zimbabwe was one of the few countries that voted with Russia on United Nations General Assembly Resolution 68/262 regarding the annexation of Crimea. Russia maintains strong economic and political ties with Zimbabwe.  Neither Russia nor China have sanctions against Zimbabwe.

One of the countries VP Harris is to visit is Zambia. Zambia has an historic connection with Zimbabwe. It borders Zimbabwe to the north. Prior to its 1964 independence from Britain, Zambia was Northern Rhodesia. Zambia has been one of China's oldest diplomatic partners with extensive trade relations between the two countries. In 1949, Zambia recognized the People's Republic of China (PRC). Zambia's political and trade relations with Russia date back to the Soviet Union and continue with The Russian Federation. Interesting choice for her visit.

While the US wants control of Zambia's copper cobalt mining, what has China done in African countries such as Zambia? The Chinese-built Kafue Gorge Lower Hydropower Station which was fully commissioned in Zambia on March 24, 2023 following the activation of its fifth generator. The project, which is part of the Belt and Road Initiative, will help alleviate power shortages in Zambia and neighboring countries, and is expected to boost regional economic development and improve people's lives. - CGTN YouTube

"Zambia Fully Commissions Chinese-Built Hydropower Plant"

As the Biden administration scrambles to undo a self-imposed damage to western, especially American, presence in the world, it's obvious it does not know how. The Biden administration continues the Chinese adage of "lifting a rock only to drop on one's own foot." It means picking up a stone to throw it on the feet of someone else however, it drops on one's own feet. It indicates wanting to harm others. The Biden administration keeps dropping stones on the toes of America. The West including the United State's practices of forcing their way of life on others, imposing sanctions, military occupations (AFRICOM) carrying out invasions, regime changes, theft of natural resources, theft of assets and continuous wars is the picking up of a huge stone. As it increases the practices that are making the world shun America, the world increases its desire to shun America. The countries of the world want to be free from their colonial masters. Increasing these practices makes Vice President Harris' and others in the Biden administration's visits to places like Africa all for naught.
